Y nunca me he quejado.
I’ve been thinking about changing (finally) our dining table and chairs for some months now. Truth be told, our current dining room set is not bad, but it’s pretty ordinary (you can check it out here). And I don’t complain. My brother kindly gave it to us when we got married and moved to this house. It’s functional, and it even looks pretty when I set the table for special occasions but I’ve always thought it could look cuter, and more stylish too.
Back to our story. Since we got married (almost 8 years ago) I’ve dreamed we could have a tulip table. Do you know it? Of course you do, because it’s famous, and “oldie”. Designed in 1957 by Eero Saarinen, it quickly became a design icon. In my case, I have vivid memories of it as a child, because my parents had a full set (original and all), and that’s where we had our meals everyday. Hence, my dream.
¡Decisiones, decisiones!
You see, that tulip table is still at my parents house. But just the pedestal, not the top. Bummer, I know. Some point through the years, the top was broken, and my parents tried fixing it but had problems with the carpenter, then we moved to another house, they bought new furniture… the pedestal was left forgotten, just as the chairs. Many years passed by, until a few years ago I remembered, asked, checked, and yes indeed, they were all there. I had the chairs painted because the original finish was damaged, and divided them with my sister (2 for each). The table, that has been a little harder, since we have to get her, or build her a top, and buy new chairs (remember I only have 2). And since there has been no budget here, all I’ve been doing is thinking about it, debating whether I would like a wooden top (it would contrast beautifully with our grey wall), or marble (which is so trendy right now, and oh so gorgeous). Decisions, decisions!
Until early this year, my sister in law gave us 6 beautiful natural tone wood chairs. They are not “iconic” but they have a beautiful, Scandinavian design, and I believe they would look great with the tulip table and a marble top (decision’s made!). I love how wood adds warmth to the table, and I’m certain that only change (the table and chairs, I mean) would make a huge impact in our dining room space.
So, now that we’re a step closer to our dream, I thought about sharing a few of my favorite pics where the tulip table is the star of the show. In the meantime, we need to keep saving and investigating who can make the marble top.
The tulip table looks great in lots of different styles. It can obviously look retro, like in this kitchen…
…but also sleek and Scandinavian, like in this office.
Es perfecta como antecomedor…
Perfect for the breakfast nook…
…pero también como comedor formal.
…but also for the formal dining room.
¿Cómo ven? ¿Les gustan mis planes para nuestro comedor?
¡Feliz fin de semana!
