Los regalos debajo del árbol, la mesa preparada, la música de Navidad que suena… ya está todo listo para disfrutar la noche más esperada del año.

Yo estaré bien ocupadita estos días, pasándola con nuestra familia (y terminando todo el trabajo del cierre del año, que es mucho!), pero no quería desconectarme sin antes desearles una maravillosa noche en compañía de su familia y seres queridos. ¡Espero que reciban muchos regalos, pero sobretodo, mucho amor!!!!!!

Gifts under the tree, the table set, and the Christmas music playing on the background… it’s all ready to enjoy the most expected night of them all. Me, I’ll be a little busy, spending time with my family (and sadly, with lots of work at the office too!), but I didn’t want to leave without wishing you all the most wonderful time with your family and loved ones. I hope you receive lots of presents, but mostly, lots of love!!!

Naturaleza, arte, nuevos proyectos y una pequeña dosis de frustración es la mejor forma de describrir lo que han sido estos últimos días para mí. Recientemente estuve de visita en Coyaua, un lugar increíble (de ahí las primeras dos imágenes). Tomé muchísimas fotos, y estuve anticipando el maravilloso post que iba a preparar con ellas a través de mi cuenta de instagram (@casahaus), sin embargo no contaba yo con que nuestro disco duro iba a tronar y me iba a dejar sin archivos 🙁 Tristeza es poco para expresar lo que significaría para mí perder todos mis documentos (especialmente mis fotos), pero, como un buen amigo me dijo, peor sería perder el disco duro de nuestro cerebro. Así que, mientras recupero las fotos (o tomo unas nuevas), me permití tomar algunas prestadas de instagram.

Nature, art, new projects, and a little dose of frustration is the best way to describe what these last few days have been for me. I was in Coyaua recently, a really gorgeous place (first two pictures). I took tons of photos, and even anticipated in instagram (@casahaus) the post I was about to write, when all of a sudden, my hard drive shut down and left me photoless. Sadness is little to express what it would mean to me loosing all my files (especially the photos), but, as a good friend said, it would be worse to loose our brain’s hard drive. So, in the meantime, I thought I’d borrow some from IG.

Después de eso, una probadita de mi más reciente obra: un carbón que disfruté mucho hacer. Estoy al tope con trabajo, intentando producir obra para una próxima exposición… pero ver los resultados hace que todo valga la pena.

Next image is my latest piece of artwork: a charcoal I enjoyed making. I’m full with the amount of work it means producing pieces for an exhibit, but then again, looking at the results makes it all worth it.

Y para finalizar, dos proyectos que también me tienen muy entretenida:

Primero, la revista que muy cariñosamente estamos haciendo Laura y yo, y que está a punto de ver la luz (ya les estaremos informando sobre el lanzamiento en estos días).

Y segundo, mi próximo proyecto para Vianney, el cual también me tiene entusiasmadísima y espero también pronto estar compartiendo.

¡Hola a todos! Hoy estoy muy emocionada, y es que lo prometido es deuda. Finalmente, después de algunos días de espera, llegó el momento de compartir el tutorial del tapete que pinté y que ahora se encuentra feliz en nuestra sala. 🙂

Hello, y’all! Today I’m very excited, because it’s finally time to share my DIY painted rug tutorial, yay!

Materiales:

 

1 tapete (yo usé el modelo Madrid, de Vianney, en chocolate).

1 litro de pintura vinílica del color de tu elección (yo usé blanca).

1 brocha pequeña

1 cinta masking tape (para enmascarar)

You’ll need:

 

A rug ( I used Vianney’s Madrid rug in chocolate).

1 quart of paint (I used flat white interior latex paint).

1 small brush

1 masking tape

fabric medium (they don’t sell any in Mexico, so I didn’t use it).

Paso 1: Extender el tapete sobre el piso y pensar en el diseño que quieres hacer. Debe ser un diseño relativamente fácil de hacer con la cinta masking; es decir, un diseño de líneas rectas. Yo estuve haciendo varios trazos en un cuaderno, hasta que me decidí por un diseño simple y que está muy de moda: el herringbone.

Step 1: Lay your rug flat on the floor, and think about the design you’ll make. It should be a relatively easy pattern to achieve with masking tape, so it has to be made of straight lines. I spent a few minutes making sketches on a notebook, until I went for a rather simple yet trendy pattern: herringbone.

Paso 2: Fijar con cinta el tapete al suelo, marcar las guías para saber en dónde colocar la cinta y poner la cinta.

TIP: Yo usé la “cuadrícula” que se foma con los pisos como referencia para asegurarme que el diseño se mantuviera derecho. Primero, marqué con lápiz sobre el piso las distancias en donde quería colocar las guías horizontales (cada 20 cms), y después con la regla, marqué sobre el piso y sobre la cinta misma las distancias en donde quería colocar las diagonales (también cada 20 cms).

Step 2: Using small pieces of masking tape, fix your rug to the floor, then mark your guides and tape away 🙂

TIP: I used the “grid” on the floor as a reference to make sure the design was straight. I marked my guides on the floor, starting with the horizontal lines (every 8 inches), and then the diagonal ones (also every 8 inches).

Paso 3: ¡A pintar se ha dicho! Yo diluí la pintura con un 10% de agua y fui pintando poco a poco, con movimientos circulares. La clave, para mí, fue no saturar la brocha con pintura, sino más bien pasarla varias veces hasta que se pinte pareja la sección.

Step 3: Time to paint! I added 10% of water to the paint (the same way as if you’re painting a wall) and begun painting little by little, making circular movements. The key, I think, was not saturating the brush with paint, but rather passing it as many times as needed to get even coverage.

Paso 4: Dejar secar.

Step 4: Let it dry.

Paso 5: Quitar la cinta, poco a poco, cuidando no jalar los hilos del tapete. Es muy importante no jalar rápido, porque si no sí se jalan los hilos y se lastima. A mí me sirvió hacer presión con la otra mano sobre el tapete, para evitar eso.

Step 5: Remove the tape carefully as not to pull the threads. This is very important, because if you pull the tape fast, they will come out. I pressed the rug with my other hand to help me avoid it.

Paso 6: A disfrutar 🙂

Step 6: Enjoy 🙂

Y listo, así de fácil fue tener un tapete con diseño moderno, que levantara nuestra sala de tv.

Ahora bien, es importante mencionar que la pintura sí deja un poco tieso el tapete, pero nada que a mí me molestara. Para evitar eso, se puede usar un producto que se vende en Estados Unidos como “fabric medium” o “medio para telas”. También, en EEUU acabo de descubrir que venden pintura en aerosol especial para telas, con lo cual yo creo que se facilita mucho el trabajo, pero, nuevamente en EEUU. Sin embargo, acá en México no encuentras esos productos en ningún lugar y por eso me animé a pintarla así. La verdad es que a todos nos encantó cómo quedó.

Otro dato es que la cinta masking sí se pega mucho al tapete, así que sí tienes que tener mucho cuidado al levantarla. Se me ocurre que probablemente con la cinta azul se puede evitar eso, porque no se pega tanto, sin embargo habría que probar que la pintura no se filtre por debajo 😉

And that’s how I painted my tv room’s rug. 🙂

Now, it’s important to mention that the paint does stiffen the rug a little, but it really didn’t bother me. To avoid it, you can use the fabric medium, but as I said, they don’t sell it over here. I also discovered Rustoleum is selling a fabric spray paint, which I think is amazing. Once again, it’s in the US. Anyhow, I used plain paint and I love the results. We all do.

Another thing to consider is that regular masking tape is strong, so you really have to be carefull when taking it off. I’ve seen people use the blue or green tape, and I think it might be useful, but I’d make a small test first to see if the paint doesn’t slip under them.

Finalmente y como se los anuncié el martes, llegó el momento de compartir lo que nos ha traído ocupados en los últimos días. Como ustedes saben, el espacio más relegado de nuestra casa ha sido y es nuestro cuarto de tv. Hace 6 meses hicimos un gran avance al hacer el mueble de la tele, sin embargo, todo lo demás seguía igual: muy sin chiste y bastante feo.

Finally, and just as I told you on Tuesday, it’s time to share what we’ve been up to lately. As you know, our tv room/entryway has been pretty forgotten all these years. We made a progress when we built the media console and shelves 6 months ago. However, everything else was just the same: very lame and extremely ugly.

Este era el espacio hace 4 años, y así seguía hasta hace 2 semanas. Debo decir que de verdad a este cuarto no le habíamos invertido mucho. Los sillones, por ejemplo, fueron un regalo de mi hermana. Y aunque se lo agradecemos en el alma y en su sala se veían increíbles, la realidad es que no son la mejor opción para un cuarto de tele. Las persianas… bueno, esas ustedes ya las conocen, son las mismas que teníamos en toda la casa por ser la opción más económica.

This is what the space looked like 4 years ago, and it remained like exactly the same 2 weeks ago. Truth be told, we haven’t really invested on it at all. The sofas, for instance, were a passed to us by my sister. And although we really appreciate it, and they looked cute in her living room, they are not the best thing for a tv room, nor for the space itself. The blinds are the same we used to have elsewhere in our house. The cheapest option in the market.

Como puedes ver, seguimos con el mismo sofá mientras podemos comprar otro, sólo que le cosí una funda para cubrir las manchas y facilitar su mantenimiento. El otro sillón lo reacomodé en casa, usando la mesa que antes teníamos para sostener la tele como mesa auxiliar. El óleo es un cuadro que pinté hace algunos años y me encanta cómo contrasta con el tono de la pared.

It’s the same sofa (while we can afford a new one), but I made a slipcover for easy maintenance. The other one is in our living room for the moment (we have no sofa there currently), and the long side table is the one where we used to sit our tv before the first change. The artwork is an oil painting I made a few years ago, and I love how it contrasts against the wall.

El cambio principal, sin embargo, lo hacen las cortinas y el tapete que pinté.

The main change, however, is the window treatment and diy rug.

Para seguir con el mismo estilo que usamos en la sala y comedor, instalamos las cortinas Palmira en color blanco, con su tubo platinado y cortinero modelo Troya, todo de Vianney.

In order to keep the same style as in the living and dining room, we used the Palmira curtains in white, with the platinum rod and Troya endings, everything from Vianney.

Adoro usar las cortinas por el aire relajado que le dan a los espacios, además de que ayudan a dar privacidad sin quitar la luz. Sin embargo, como este es el cuarto de tv, instalamos además las cortinas enrollables Cocoa, con black out, para poder oscurecer el espacio y poder disfrutar de la tele cuando la estamos viendo.

I love having curtains over my windows, and I appreciate the privacy they give without taking away the light. However, since this is the tv room, we needed to darken it occasionally, so we also installed the Cocoa roller blinds with black out.

El espacio lo completa nuestro nuevo tapete, con su diseño tipo herringbone, que yo pinté con mis propias manitas. Estoy súper contenta con el resultado, tanto que ya quiero atacar otro. 🙂 Se trata del modelo Madrid en color chocolate, también de Vianney.

The room is finished with our new rug, with a herringbone pattern I personally painted. I’m extra happy with it, so much I want to get my hands on another one 🙂 The rug is the Madrid model in chocolate, also from Vianney.

Una de las razones que hizo este fin tan especial fue que nos dimos una pequeña vacación sin salir de la ciudad. Fue algo muy divertido y emocionante para mí y es que todo lo que le dije a J. fue que lo iba a invitar a cenar. Nada se imaginaba que además de eso nos íbamos a hospedar en uno de los hoteles boutique más bonitos de Guadalajara. 😉

One of the reasons that made this past weekend so amazing was that we took a little vacation without leaving the city. It was actually pretty amusing and exciting for me, because all I said to J. was that I was taking him out for dinner. Little did he know that we would stay at one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in the city. 😉

Casa Micalco es un hermoso hotel boutique spa a 15 minutos de la ciudad, el cual tuve la fortuna de conocer en un evento blogger (puedes leer toda la nota acá). Aquella vez disfrutamos del increíble spa, sin embargo desde entonces, tenía muchas ganas de vivir la experiencia de hospedarme ahí. Sus hermosos jardines y vistas, deliciosa comida y magníficas habitaciones son un placer para todos los sentidos.

Casa Micalco is a gorgeous boutique hotel and spa, just 15 minutes away from the city. I had been there before at a blogger event, where we had the chance to get the spa experience. Since then, I had wanted to return to stay one night at the hotel. Its beautiful gardens, wonderful views, and lovely rooms are a pleasure to the senses.

La deliciosa comida y repostería de la chef Andrea Lozano. El plato rosa fue una sorpresa: tiene una riquísima crema de betabel.

(Importante: Puedes disfrutar del servicio del restaurante aunque no seas huésped del hotel).

The amazing food made for us by the chef Andrea Lozano. The pink dish was a true surprise: a delicious beetroot cream.

Disfrutamos al máximo cada minuto que estuvimos ahí. Es increíble como ese pequeño escape fue suficiente para llenarnos de energía, y así empezar la semana con ánimo. ¿Y tú te has dado un chiqueo últimamente?

We enjoyed each and every minute we spent there. It’s amazing how this little getaway was enough to fill us with energy for the weekdays to come. Have you pampered yourself lately?

Arte, buenos momentos, y naturaleza es una buena manera de resumir lo que han sido estos últimos días. Sé que no he estado posteando tanto como me gusta hacerlo, pero he estado trabajando en muchos nuevos proyectos que me tienen muy entusiasmada, y también muy ocupada. Si me sigues en instagram sabrás que tengo algunos meses trazando y creando obra nueva. Ésta en particular está recién salida del horno, y es de mis favoritas. Me gusta cómo se ve con el muro gris de fondo. El arbolito es una belleza, y un excelente recuerdo de lo que fue este fin de semana, uno de los mejores de todo el año. Un olivo, con todo y sus aceitunitas, que espero mañana ya esté plantadito en su nuevo hogar.

Las historias del fin de semana y mucho más estaré compartiendo esta semana que a penas comienza… a disfrutarla 🙂

Art, good moments, and nature is an excellent way to sum up these last few days. I know I haven’t posted as much as I like to, but I’ve been working on new projects that make me really excited, and very busy too. If you’re following me on instagram you’ll know I’ve been sketching, drawing, and creating new artwork lately. This is my latest piece, just recently made, and it’s one of my favorites. I love how it looks against the gray wall. The tree, on the other hand is such a beauty, and a great reminder of this weekend, probably the best in all year. An olive with its tiny olives, which will hopefully find its place tomorrow.

En la vida real, transformar un espacio y convertirlo en el lugar que soñamos suele ser mucho más lento de lo que lo quisiéramos… especialmente si, como nosotros, tienes poco presupuesto y tiempo. Los días vuelan, y cuando menos te das cuenta, resulta que ya casi se cumplen 2 años desde aquella vez que nos propusimos por primera vez transformar el cuarto de nuestra hija. Los cambios se fueron haciendo poco a poco, primero una cosa, luego la otra… hasta hace algunas semanas en las que nos pusimos a trabajar para terminar los últimos detalles y hoy me hace mucha ilusión poder compartir los resultados 🙂

In real life, transforming a space and turning it into your dream home takes far more months than what you’ve planned, especially if you, like us, are low on budget and time. Days fly by, and then you realize it’s almost 2 years since you first made plans about your daughter’s room (that’s us, again). We began by making little tweaks and minor changes, then one thing led to the other until a few weeks ago we set our minds to finish those little details missing. Now, I’m thrilled to share with you the results, at least so far 🙂

Me encanta ver cómo el espacio se ha acomodado a la forma de ser de nuestra hija. A ella siempre le ha gustado mucho toda la temática parisina, así que le encantaron las sábanas y el edredón “París”, de VNG, junto con su canopy “Sweet”. Aprovechando su pared pintarrón, yo le dibujé unas ventanitas muy al estilo francés para sorprenderla cuando viera su recámara.

I love how this room has turned into an expression of our daughter. She has always liked Paris, so she loved the sheets and duvet from VNG to go along with the “Sweet” canopy. Then, I drew some very French windows on her dry erase board wall to add up to the surprise.

Este lado de la pared ya lo había mostrado hace poco… prácticamente sigue igual, a excepción de los cuadros que cambiamos para que fueran a juego con el nuevo edredón. Estos son el modelo “París”, y lo que más me gusta es que el tono de azules el mismo que ya teníamos en la pared.

This side of the room, I had shown a little ago. It’s pretty much the same, except we changed the canvases to match the bedding. These are the called “Paris” and I love that the blue in the one above is just the same tone as the one on the wall.

Después de eso, fue agregar las tan anheladas cortinas (ella ya no quería las persianas)… su modelo favorito fue el “Galicia”, con sus delicadas líneas horizontales. Encima de ellas pusimos unas black out en blanco, para cuando necesite oscurecer su habitación. Usamos tubos cromados y las terminales Melfi.

Then it was just a matter of getting rid of the pink blinds, and installing the new curtains. Her favorite model is called “Galicia”, and it’s quite lovely with delicate horizontal stripes. Then, we put some white blackout curtains on top. We used the crome tube and Melfi finial.

Como puedes ver, es un cuarto súper chiquito, pero ahora está lleno de estilo. A ella le encanta, y a mí también. Creo que quedó ideal para su edad (12 años), ya que lo quería femenino sin ser infantil. A mí me fascina el aire romántico que le aportan el canopy y las cortinas, ahora la recámara se ve mucho más “vestida” y terminada, y como las pusimos hasta el piso, le da una sensación de mayor amplitud. De hecho, a pesar del tamaño, este espacio no se siente apretado ni atiborrado… definitivamente este acomodo (igual al del cuarto de la bebé) con la cama pegada a la pared se presta mucho para los cuartos pequeñitos porque queda más lugar para moverse, y acomodar otras cosas, como en este caso, el escritorio que hicimos. Por último, los pequeños detalles, como son las flores, los viniles, la punta en la funda y demás accesorios, completan la decoración… ¿a ti qué te parece?

As you may notice, this is a tiny room, but it is now big on style. She loves it, and so do I. I think it’s perfect for her age (12) because it’s feminine without being childish. I love the romantic, airy feel the canopy and curtains give. I think in spite of its size, it doesn’t look cramped, and there’s room to move around and extra storage space in the desk and drawers. Last, but not least, it’s the little details that make it feel complete. How do you like it?

Revisando el archivo de fotos de nuestra recámara me llamaron la atención los diferentes looks que hemos tenido en ella. Es curioso, pero a veces cambiar el ambiente de una recámara es tan sencillo como cambiarle la ropa de cama (o incluso los accesorios), y así conseguimos un espacio distinto, que vaya de acuerdo a la estación del año, o simplemente a nuestro humor. A continuación te comparto nuestros últimos estilos, para que tú también mires las diferencias 🙂

I was browsing through my bedroom photo files and I noticed the different looks we’ve had in it. It’s funny, but sometimes changing the space’s feel is just as easy as changing the bedding, or accesories, according to the seasons or our very own mood. Here are some pics from our last styles, hope you enjoy them 🙂

Un estilo muy neutro y relajado, con poco contraste. Ropa de cama de artell (que ganamos gracias a tu apoyo en el concurso!!!).

A very neutral and relaxed look, with no contrast. Bedding by artell.

Quizá el look más conocido de nuestra recámara, bohemio y colorido. Para conseguir este estilo, te puedes apoyar con diseños étnicos o damascos para el duvet, una sábana blanca para neutralizarlo, y usar cojines con diferentes diseños y texturas.

Probably our bedroom’s most known look, bohemian and colorful. For this style, I used a duvet with a damask design, white sheets, and different pillows.

Por último, probablemente mi look favorito de todos, nuestra recámara invernal. Para este estilo, utilicé ropa de cama neutra, cálida y con mucha textura, y para dar contraste usé algunas de mis pinturas y accesorios en tono aqua, que resaltaron perfecto con los tonos cafés. Ahora quiero una mini repisa sobre mi cama, para poder estar poniendo cuadros ahí, me gusta mucho cómo se ven.

Last but not least, probably my favorite look of all, our Winter bedroom. For this look, I used neutral bedding, and a gorgeous faux fur mega throw, which added lots of texture and warmth. Then to add some contrast, I placed some of my artwork and accesories in aqua tones, which reminds me I want a ledge shelf over my headboard, loved how the frames look.

Cuando recién nos mudamos a esta casa mandamos instalar persianas en todas las ventanas, pues era lo más económico. Nunca nos habían molestado en realidad, hasta que pintamos la pared de la sala con el esténcil. Justo en ese momento se empezaron a ver muy feas, digamos que… pues dejaron de combinar con la “nueva” sala.

When we first moved to this house, we had the cheapest blinds installed in every window. They had never been an issue until we stencilled our living room wall. That’s when the blinds began to look pretty ugly. Let’s say they no longer matched.

This was the least known side of our living room… until today. Meet our imporved living room 🙂

Adoro como pareciera que la ventana ahora es más ancha, dándole amplitud a esa pared.

I love how it seems the window is wider now, making the wall feel a little larger.

Siendo el mismo espacio, también al comedor le tocó su renovación.

Being in the same space, the dining room also had its mini improvement.

Es impresionante el cambio que pueden generar las cortinas en un ambiente. El espacio ya luce mucho más completo, especialmente la sala, con sus accesorios.

It’s amazing the big change window treatments can bring into a space. It looks more complete, especially the living room.

Las cortinas que usamos son el modelo Palmira blanco, de Vianney, y en la sala colocamos además las persianas Calcuta en color chocolate, también de Vianney. Son muy sencillas de instalar… tanto que lo hicimos nosotros solitos.

The curtains are the model Palmira in white, from Vianney, and in the living room we added the Calcuta bamboo blinds in chocolate, also from Vianney, for extra privacy, since this window leads to the street.

Los cojines son el juego Oasis, de Vianney. Me gustaron por esos tonos azul aqua que tienen, y me encanta cómo van con el gris, además de que los patrones también complementan muy bonito al de la pared.

The pillows are the Oasis model, from Vianney. I liked their gorgeous aqua tones, and I love how both the color and the pattern go with our accent wall.

Poco a poco, nuestra casa sigue tomando forma… Por lo pronto yo estoy muy contenta, no sólo por el cambio, sino porque a mi esposo y a mi hija también les gustó mucho cómo quedó 🙂
