Sé que la mayoría no tenemos el espacio (ni el dinero) para una cocina de éstas, sin embargo sí creo que hay muchas ideas que podemos tomar… Hay algo en la colección que Diesel creó para Scavolini que hace que estos espacios tremendamente inspiradores se sientan también cercanos. Son modernos, pero con alma vintage. Un espacio sumamente casual en donde la cocina, la sala y el comedor se mezclan para crear no sólo un espacio en donde cocinar, sino también en donde reunirse y relajarse. Esta tendencia se ve cada vez más, pero me encanta cómo ellos lograron hacerlo a la perfección. Y con un estilo increíble, muy industrial.

I know most of us don’t have the space (or money) for these kitchens, but I do believe there are many ideas we could borrow. There’s something about the Social Kitchen Diesel created for Scavolini that makes these spaces amazingly inspiring but also feel close to us. They are modern, but with a retro soul. A casual place where the kitchen, dining and living room are melted into one space, somewhere you can not only cook, but also gather and relax. This is a trend we see more and more, but I love how they pulled it off. And with the most gorgeous, vintage industrial style.

Gabinetes viejos, estanterías industriales, cuadros descansando en las repisas o colgados en los muros… ¿verdad que de repente podríamos aplicar algunas de estas ideas en nuestros propios espacios? En fin, adoro el carácter y la personalidad que respiran estas cocinas… Y a ti, ¿qué te parecen?

Vintage furniture, gallery walls, industrial shelves, gorgeous pendants… I could certainly borrow these ideas for my home! I love the personality and character these kitchens have. How do you like them?

El 2013 ya prácticamente se terminó, y para nuestro último “home tour” del año, quiero compartirte una increíble casa en Melbourne, Australia. Tiene un estilo moderno, donde abunda el gris, pero también hay una interesante mezcla de colores y de eclécticas piezas únicas que la llenan de mucha personalidad y carácter. Así que, no más palabras. Dejemos que las fotos hablen por sí solas 😉

2013 is almost over, and for this year’s last home tour, I want to share with you a gorgeous home in Melbourne, Australia. With a modern style and lots of gray, it’s also got an interesting mix of colors and eclectic pieces which make it unique and add personality and character. So, no more words. I’ll let the photos speak for themselves. 😉

Esta casa tiene algo que me deja sin palabras… Puedo pasar horas y horas viendo las fotos, especialmente la de la cocina y la de la chimenea en la sala. Adoro el gris oscuro y negro que hay en la cocina, y cómo los azulejos le dan un toque muy chic y elegante, que está muy bien balanceado por la encimera de concreto pulido. No sólo eso, me encanta que la pared del fondo de la cocina está cubierta con un espejo, en lugar de azulejo, dándole mucha profundidad… Mientras que por el otro lado, se encuentra la sala, con una gran pared blanca, que refleja toda la luz, y que hace un bonito contraste con el piso y el muro. Nuevamente vemos el uso del concreto pulido, no sólo en el piso, sino también en la chimenea, lo cual le da un toque muy urbano y un tanto rústico, que me fascina…. ¿A ti qué es lo que más te gusta?

This house has something that leaves me speechless… I could easily spend hours and hours watching the photos, especially the kitchen and the fireplace in the living room. I love the dark gray and black in the kitchen, and how the tiles add that touch of glamour and elegance, which is perfectly balanced with the concrete countertop. And then, the mirror backsplash, so gorgeous! Then, on the other side, there’s the living room, with the huge white wall, reflecting all the light and making a nice and subtle contrast to the gray floor and wall. Once again, concrete is used in the shelf, giving a very urban yet rustic feel, which I adore. What’s your favorite room?

Este fin de semana celebramos la Navidad con mi familia, en casa de mis papás, y yo estuve muy contenta porque le ayudé a mi mamá a preparar la mesa para la cena. Fue un reto especial por las dimensiones y el estilo de su comedor, muy diferentes al nuestro. Yo quería lograr una mesa de Navidad moderna y fresca, pero sin romper con el estilo clásico de la casa. Al final, me encantó el resultado, y lo mejor fue ver a mi mamá contenta, a mi papá gratamente sorprendido, y a todos disfrutando del momento. No hay nada más que pedir. 🙂

This weekend we celebrated Christmas with my side of the family, at my parents’ home, and I was thrilled because I was in charge of doing the table setting. It was a huge challenge for me, because mom’s dining room is so different than mine in both dimensions and style. I wanted to achieve a modern and fresh Christmas table setting, without breaking away from the classic furniture. In the end, I loved how everything turned out, and the best was watching my mom happy, my dad surprised, and everyone enjoying the moment. That’s the biggest payment I could ask. 🙂

Empezamos con una tela tipo lino como mantel, y luego puse un camino de yute, cubierto de ramas frescas de cedro. No sólo se ven bonitas, sino que su olor es delicioso

We started with a large piece of a linen-kind of fabric for the tablecloth, and then I placed a long piece of burlap as the table runner, topped with fresh evergreens. Not only do they look pretty, but it smells amazing.

Y luego, mi parte favorita: poner cosas bonitas. En esta ocasión usé esferas que le sobraron a mi mamá del arbolito en tonos dorados, velas, copos de nieve y unas lámparas de vidrio que compré en un bazar y que adoro por su forma increíble. Lo mejor es que tienen la punta del mismo dorado que las esferas. 🙂 Ah, también hay un par de adornos en forma de pluma, que se supone son para el arbolito, pero aquí quedaron rebien.

And then, my favorite part: placing pretty stuff on the runner. This time I used mom’s leftover ornaments, candles, my snowflake ornaments and a couple of glass pendants I found thrifting. I love their shape, and the best thing is they have a tip in the exact same gold as the ornaments. Score! Oh, and there are also some feather like ornaments, which look pretty cool. 😉

Sobre los platos, servilletas con un diseño chevron en blanco y negro, para un toque moderno, con una ramita de cedro y encima un copo de nieve. 🙂

I loved the black and white chevron paper napkins (adds a modern touch), with a small evergreen and a snokflake on top. 🙂

¿Verdad que se ve lindo?

La clave para poder mezclar un comedor clásico con una mesa moderna: una gama de colores neutros para que todo combine; toques dorados para aportar glamour y una pequeña dosis de diseño moderno a blanco y negro en las servilletas. ¡No hay pierde! Creo que incluso, como no hay adornos demasiado navideños, esta mesa bien podría servir para Año Nuevo, con tanto dorado y blanco y negro, o para otra ocasión con ligeras variaciones 😉

¡Felices fiestas, espero la pasen de maravilla!!!!

The key to mixing classic with modern for me was: a neutral palette so everything ties together, gold touches to add glamour, and a little dose of modern black and white pattern, through the napkins. Fail-proof! I think this table could work on New Year’s too, with so much gold, black, and white…

Como ayer lo anticipaba, ha llegado el momento de la última quedada del año, y por supuesto, no podíamos quedar en otro lugar que no fuera la Navidad. Por tercer año consecutivo nos reunimos un grupo de deco bloggers en esta celebración, y ¡estoy que muero por ver toda la inspiración que llenará la blogósfera!

Just as I mentioned yesterday, it’s time for our last Meet you at post of the year, and of course we couldn’t think of a better place to “meet” than Christmas. It’s our third Christmas get-together, where a big group of deco bloggers share this celebration, and I’m dying to see all the inspiration that is sure to fill the blogosphere!

Yo tenía muchas ganas de mostrar cómo decoré nuestra casa este año, pero como ya lo hice, no quería ser repetitiva y cansar, pues en realidad no hay muchos ángulos diferentes en los que pueda fotografiar esta pequeña casa nuestra, jeje. Así que , en lugar de eso, mi propuesta es una casa decorada de una manera simple, pero con mucho estilo y un ligero toque de glamour.

I actually wanted to share how I decorated our home this year, but since I have done that, I didn’t want to repeat myself, since there are really not many different angles for me to photograph this tiny house of ours. So, instead, I’m sharing a gorgeous home, decorated in a not so elaborate way, but loaded with style and a light touch of glamour.

El clásico blanco y negro le dan un toque muy neutral y moderno, mientras que los platas y dorados aportan el toque de glamour y estilo… ¡me encanta! Adoro la manera en que se adornó el marco de la puerta, usando esferas, listones y un banner de papel kraft. Sin embargo, mi parte favorita es sin duda el arbolito de la cocina, dibujado sobre el muro de pizarrón, y decorado con luces y esferas de papel. Es una idea estupenda de bajo costo para los espacios pequeños (¡y los no tan pequeños!).

The classic black and white makes it look neutral and modern, while the silver and gold add a touch of glamour and style… love it! I also love the way the door frame is embelished, using ornaments, ribbons, and a kraft paper banner. However, my favorite part of all is the kitchen tree, drawn onto the chalkboard wall and decorated with lights and paper ornaments. It’s such a great and low cost idea, perfect for small spaces (and not so small ones!).

Mientras terminamos los últimos detalles de la edición navideña de Little Haus (esos que nunca terminan :), hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una casa tremendamente inspiradora. Ubicada en Finlandia, está tan llena de luz y de paredes blancas que luce más amplia de lo que en realidad es. El contraste blanco y negro luce genial con los pisos de madera (¿o laminados?) y resulta nuevamente una base ideal para los chispazos de color y las piezas únicas. Por último, adoro la atmósfera relajada que transmite, en donde los espacios se ven reales y vividos… Espero que te guste mucho y te sirva para encontrar ideas para tus propios espacios, ¡bonito día!

As we finish the last details of our dear Winter Little Haus (never-ending as they might be) I’d like to share a tremendously inspiring home. Set in Finland, it’s filled with light and white walls, which make it seem more spacious than it really is. The black and white contrast looks amazing with the wood floors (or laminate?) and once again proves to be perfect for the splashes of color and unique pieces placed here and there. I love the relaxed atmosphere it transmits, whee spaces look so real and liveable… I hope you like it as much, and helps you get inspired to transform your own spaces. Happy day!

Una de las razones por las cuales me encantan los espacios neutros es porque podemos cambiarles el feeling a nuestro antojo, simplemente con los accesorios. Es mucho más fácil cambiar la decoración de los cojines, mantas y detalles, que comprar un nuevo sillón, por ejemplo. 🙂 Así que, hoy les quiero compartir unos espacios con dos opciones de decoración cada uno: una en blanco y negro (muy al estilo escandinavo), y otra más colorida, con detalles de crochet. Fíjate cómo los espacios son idénticos, ¡pero se sienten muy diferente!

One of the reasons I love Scandinavian spaces is how easy they are to change according to our mood, with accesories. It’s so much easier to change a pillow or throw, than buying a new sofa 🙂 So today I’d like to share with you spaces with two styling options each: one black and white, for a Nordic feel, and the other with color details made of crochet. Notice how they are the same spaces, but the styling makes them feel so different!

Son habitaciones hermosas, por lo que se ven bien de las dos maneras. Por un lado, las opciones a color a mí me transmiten una sensación más juguetona y relajada, mientras que las de blanco y negro me transmiten más sofisticación, sin llegar a la formalidad absoluta. Creo que nadie se va a extrañar si digo que mis favoritos son los espacios con detalles blanco y negro, pues como saben adoro esa mezcla. A ti, ¿cuál te gusta más?

Both rooms are beautiful, so they look great both ways. On one hand, the colored ones give me a youthful, more relaxed feeling, while the black and white ones have a more sophisticated feeling, while remaining casual. I guess it’s no surprise for me to say, if I had to choose, I prefer the black and white mix, because you all know how much I love it. Which is your favorite?

Conocí el trabajo de la fotógrafa australiana Brooke Holm recientemente, mientras buscaba imágenes para el post “Cómo decorar con cojines” del viernes pasado. Desde entonces, quedé enamorada por la belleza de sus fotos, así como también por los espacios frescos y modernos que suele captar con su lente. Dentro de su portafolio, encontré mucha inspiración: ambientes muy relajados, juveniles y simples. Así que, como con todo lo bueno, supe que tenía que compartirlo aquí con ustedes. A continuación algunas imágenes tomadas de la web de Brooke, esperando que te inspiren tanto como a mí.

I learned about Australian photographer Brooke Holm just recently, while searching for photos for my Friday post “How to decorate with throw pillows“. Since then, I fell in love with the beauty of her pics, as well as the fresh, modern spaces her lens capture. Her portfolio shows gorgeous inspiration: homes with a very relaxed and simple feel. So, as with every good thing out there, I knew I had to share it here with you. Following up, some photos taken from Brooke’s website, hoping they inspire you as much as they did me.

Para este último martes de agosto (¿puedes creerlo?), una casa en Australia, llena de mucha inspiración. Construida en 1880, pero renovada en 2005, aún conserva su fachada victoriana. Detrás de ella, sin embargo, se encuentra una casa completamente contemporánea, abierta y llena de luz y buenas ideas.

For this last Tuesday of August (can you believe it?), I’m bringing a totally inspiring Australian home. Built in 1880, but renewed en 2005, this house still has its original Victorian facade. Its back, however, is very different. A completely open, contemporary space, filled with light and excellent ideas.

Me encanta lo que el arquitecto Phil Harris hizo con el espacio, haciendo que sala, cocina y comedor convivan juntos (algo cada vez más frecuente), de forma que a pesar de ser una casa pequeña, se siente amplia, y es perfecta para invitar amigos y disfrutarse. Mi elemento favorito son las lámparas, diseño de David Trubridge, que estelarizan el espacio y brindan calidez (especialmente de noche).

¿A ti qué te parece?

I love what architect Phil Harris did to the space, making a big room for living, dining and kitchen (something we see more often), taking a rather small house and making it feel larger, perfect for having friends over and simply enjoying it. My favorite elements are the pendant lights, by David Trubridge. Definitely the stars of the space, y love how they add warmth, especially at night.

El martes les contaba que la mini transformación del cuarto de mi hermano estaba por fin terminada, y hoy estoy contenta de poder compartir con ustedes todas las fotos y los detalles. ¡Me temo que éste será un post largo!!!!!

Pero primero, lo primero… esos “antes y desués” que a todos nos gustan 🙂

Last Tuesday I told you about the mini makeover I tackled in my brother’s room, and now I’m happy to finally share with you all the photos and details. I think this might be a long post!

First things first: the “before and after” pics we all love 🙂

Como pueden ver, el cuarto era hasta hace poco para DOS, pero cuando uno de mis hermanos se mudó, le dejó al más “pequeño” todo el espacio para él solito… ¡ya no más! Juntamos las camas, hice una cabecera nueva, puse el edredón king size de Vianney y listo 😉

As you can see, the room was for TWO people, but a little ago one of my brothers moved out, leaving the whole space for the “little” one. That is… until now! We pulled both beds together, made a new headboard, place the king size coverlet from Vianney, and voilá 😉

Del otro lado del cuarto no había mucho, ¿pero recuerdan la sorpresa que les dije?

On the other side of the room there wasn’t much to see, but remember I told you there was a surprise?

Instalamos un foto mural con una imagen increíble del Puente de la Bahía de San Francisco que va a juego con los tonos de la cabecera. Me gusta el toque masculino que aporta a la habitación, y me encanta cómo las luces del puente parecieran continuarse con las luces empotradas del techo 😉

We installed a photo mural with a gorgeous pic from the Bay Bridge, which goes perfectly well with the tones on the headboard. It also adds a masculine feel to the room and lots of personality. Plus, I like the way the lights on the bridge kinda continue with the ones overhead 😉

En realidad, todo lo demás siguió prácticamente igual. Mis papás no querían gastar mucho en el cuarto, y yo los convencí que podía hacer una cabecera para que mi hermano pudiera disfrutar de más amplitud si juntábamos sus camas. Lo demás fue acomodar, organizar y rescatar algunas piezas que ya había en el cuarto y en casa. Por ejemplo, sobre la mesa, una maleta vintage, colección de mi hermano.

Everything else is pretty much the same. My parents didn’t want to spend a lot in the room, and I convinced them I could make a headboard to give more space by putting both beds together. It was just a matter of arranging, organizing and rescuing some of his own pieces and others from home, like the vintage suitcases, from my brother’s collection.

Ver cómo quedó la cama me pone feliz 🙂 Me encanta.

Para ese look masculino, lleno de textura y calidez, recurrí a Vianney. Primero, empecé con las sábanas Canadá en beige, individuales. Luego, el edredón Basic en chocolate, en tamaño king size.

Looking at that bed makes me happy 🙂 I love it.

For the masculine look, both warm and with lots of texture, I turned to Vianney. First, the Cadada sheets in beige, twin size. Then, the Basic chocolate coverlet, in king size.

Y después, muchas almohadas. Empecé con TRES almohadas con su funda básica chocolate. Luego, dos almohadas con las fundas de las sábanas, y para finalizar, mis favoritas de siempre: las almohadas capuchino (las mismas que tengo yo en nuestra recámara).

Then it’s pillow time. I begun with three standard pillows with the Basic pillowcase in chocolate. Then it was two standard pillows with the pillowcases from the sheet set. And on top of that, my very favorites, the Capucchino faux fur pillows (the very same I have in our bedroom).

Por supuesto también ayudaron las mesas tulip que puse a los lados de la cama, y que mi mamá tenía sin usar. Mi sueño secreto es que un día me regale una. O las dos. 😉

Las luces del techo agregan drama al espacio, y nuevamente, funcionan muy bien con la cabecera que hice. 😀

Then there’s the tulip set of side tables that my mom already had. My secret dream is she’ll give one to me. Or both. 😉

Once again, I love the overhead lights, and how they add drama and work perfectly well with the new diy headboard.

Sobre la mesa, libros y una escultura en barro que mi hermano hizo cuando tenía 6 años (ahora tiene 27). Me encanta.

On one of the tables, books and a clay sculpture my brother made when he was 6 (he is 27 now). I love it.

Y le acomodé un rincón, con sus fotos que tenía regadas por todo el cuarto, sus discos y su buró original. Encima, un premio que ganó en un concurso de diseño industrial a nivel internacional (tengo que presumirlo) y una lap vintage de colección.

Then I arranged a corner with a little gallery wall, his cds and his original side table. On top, an award he won in an industrial design international contest (I have to brag about it) and a vintage collectible lap computer.

Con las luces apagadas el cuarto toma su color original, que es más gris y azulado… y también me gusta mucho.

Pero lo mejor, y más importante, es que a él también le encantó 😀

When the lights are turned off, the space looks less yellow and more blue-ish. And I also love it.

But most important, HE loved it too. 😀

El día de hoy tengo una casa increíble, perfecta para iniciar la semana llenos de inspiración. Se trata de una casa en Finlandia con un estilo impecable y simple. Grandes dosis de madera y concreto pulido, y mucho blanco y negro para disfrute de todos los amantes del estilo escandinavo. 😉

Today I’ve got the perfect inspiration for the upcoming week. It’s a gorgeous home in Finland, with a sleek and modern style. Lots of concrete and wood, and plenty of black and white for all of those Scandinavian lovers out there (me included). Enjoy! 😉
