Después de haberme desconectado un par de semanas, es bueno estar de regreso. 🙂 Como les conté antes de irme, nos tomamos unas vacaciones con la familia y, aunque el clima estuvo haciendo de las suyas, la verdad es que lo disfrutamos todo muchísimo. Si me sigues en instagram, quizá ya sabes en dónde estuvimos (hubo gente que estuvo adivinando, algunos muy atinadamente :)… uno de los lugares más inspiradores que puedes encontrar, y de hecho recientemente declarado por la revista Condé Nast como la mejor ciudad de todo el mundo para visitar: San Miguel de Allende, México.

After a couple of weeks away, it’s good to be back. Like I told you, we took a break to enjoy our family and, eventhough the weather was crazy, we actually spent a great time together. If you follow me on instagram, you might have a clue as to where we were (some even made guesses:): one of the most inspiring places you can find, and actually recently declared by Condé Nast Traveler magazine as the top city in the world to visit: San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.

Ésta no es la primera vez que visitamos San Miguel, pues J y yo ya habíamos ido hace dos años para nuestro aniversario. Fue increíble regresar, y poder visitar algunas de mis tiendas de decoración favoritas, como Trinitate, con su cerámica tan hermosa.

This is not the first time we visited San Miguel. J and I went two years ago, for our anniversary. I loved revisiting the city, especially some of my favorite décor shops, like Trinitate, with its gorgeous ceramics.

Quedé especialmente enamorada de su línea de Navidad… quizá para el próximo año podría poner algunos detalles así 🙂

I fell in love with their Christmas pieces… perhaps next year I could have some ornaments like these.

Después visitamos Fábrica La Aurora, una antigua fábrica textil la cual ahora alberga muchas galerías de arte contemporáneo así como tiendas de decoración. Sus exteriores y sus jardines llenos de suculentas no podían pasar desapercibidos para mí.

Then we visited La Aurora, an old textile factory turned which now houses art galleries and décor shops. And with these outdoors, I couldn’t help but get busy with my camera.

Y por último, Xochicóatl, una tienda preciosa, en donde encontré esta increíble pared de cuadros de mariposas y otros insectos, entre otros tesoros.

Last but not least, Xochicoatl, a cute little store, where I found an amazing gallery wall of butterflies and other insects.

En fin, ni el frío ni la lluvia nos impidieron disfrutar el hermoso San Miguel de Allende. Por supuesto, también me di el agasajo de fotografiar pisos hermosos, de esos que ya saben me vuelven loca… pero ése, mis amigos, tendrá que ser otro post. 😉 Mientras tanto, me despido esperando que esta primera semana del año sea muy inspiradora y productiva para todos… 😉 ¡Feliz lunes!

Not even the cold weather nor the rain stopped us from enjoying gorgeous San Miguel. I also got the chance to take photos of amazing floors, those that sweep me away… but that, my friends, will have to be another post. In the meantime, I say goodbye, hoping this first week of the year is both inspiring and productive for all of you. Happy Monday!!!

Como les decía, después de nuestro fin de semana, la Navidad ya se instaló en la casa. Todavía faltan un par de detalles, pero al menos el ambiente ya lo tenemos puesto. Mucha gente me ha estado preguntando sobre nuestro par de arbolitos de Navidad, y a todos les he dicho lo mismo: se sorprenderán de saber qué árboles son y cómo los conseguí.

Like I said, Christmas has arrived home. There are still some details missing here and there, but overall, we’ve got the mood already. Many people have asked about our Christmas trees, and I’ve answered the same thing to all: you’ll be surprised to know.

Resulta que nuestros árboles no son árboles, son QUIOTES. ¿Saben lo que es eso? Es la flor del agave (sí, ese mismo con el que hacemos el tequila) 😉 O sea, imaginen esta foto, pero en lugar de la base envuelta en tela, pongan un agave. 🙂

Turns out our trees are not trees, they are QUIOTES (like Don Quijote, but without the J). Do you know what that is? It’s the agave flower (the very same one from where we produce tequila, yes!) 😉 Just picture this very same photo, but instead of the burlap base, picture an agave plant. 🙂

Yo lo encuentro muy bello, muy ornamental, hasta parece una especie de pino. Sus ramas son muy delgaditas, y en las puntas tienen muchas ramitas. Algunas de ellas incluso tienen agavitos miniatura, que parecen hojitas.

I find it extremely beautiful, very ornamental. It’s like a branch, but shaped as a pine tree. It’s delicate and pretty. Some of the branches have tiny agaves, which seam like leaves.

Sobre cómo lo conseguimos, es una larga historia. Desde el año pasado tuve la idea, así que fuimos al pueblo de Tequila, pensando que allá los encontraríamos más fácil. Sin embargo, el quiote es comestible, y en Tequila, no hay ni uno a la vista, pues todos los quitan y los aprovechan. Así que el año pasado me quedé con las ganas. Entonces desde enero, empecé a observar las calles de Guadalajara, y me di cuenta que hay muchísimos agaves y magueyes en las calles de la ciudad, los más viejos con quiotes enormes. A veces crecen tanto y secan al agave, que la gente los tira sin aprovecharlos, porque aquí en la ciudad no los usamos para nada.

As for how we got it, it’s a long story. I had the idea since last year, so we went on a trip to the town of Tequila, thinking it would be easier there. However, the quiote flower is edible, and in Tequila there is not a single one in sight, because they are all used. So ever since I started observing the streets in Guadalajara, and realized there are lots of agaves in the streets, the older ones with quiotes. When the agave is very old, the quiote grows very tall, and then the agave dries. And then people just cut them down and throw them away.

Así que este año fue más sencillo, yo ya había visto dos quiotes a la vuelta de la esquina, así que llegado el tiempo, preguntamos y los cortamos. 🙂

So this time it was easier. I had spotted two quiotes just around the corner. So when the time came, we asked and cut them down 🙂

Y aquí están, en casa, viéndose lindos. Lo mejor de todo es que aunque se sequen, las ramas no se bajan, quedan paraditas… Y con eso que nuestra casa es chiquita, la verdad es que caben mucho mejor que un árbol tradicional. Y nos ahorramos el dinero. ¿Qué más puedo pedir?

Así que ahora ya saben la historia de nuestros árboles de Navidad diy. No más misterio. 🙂

So here they are, looking cute at home. The best thing is, eventhough they dry, the branches remain up. And since our home is so tiny, this is better than the natural trees. And we saved on money. What else could we ask for? So now you know the story behind our DIY Christmas trees. Mystery solved 🙂

Una de las cosas que más disfruté de nuestro Reto “Espacios” (organizado en Instagram, con @igersmexico), es que me permitió descubrir muchos espacios inspiradores, pero además muchísimo talento para fotografiarlos.

Hoy les quiero compartir una casa que quizá reconozcan, pues fue una de las ganadoras. Ubicada en Valle de Bravo, México, esta casa tiene ese estilo industrial, rústico, contemporáneo que tanto me gusta. Vigas de madera a la vista, muros de concreto aparente, pisos de piedra y grandes ventanales forman parte de la arquitectura, mientras que en la decoración encontramos piezas increíbles. Bellamente capturada por Edmundo García, es un verdadero placer compartirla con ustedes… espero la disfruten!

One of the things I enjoyed the most about our “Spaces” Challenge at IG was I got to discover lots of gorgeous spaces, but also, lots of talented people who photograph them. Today I’d like to share a house you might recognize, for it was a winner at the challenge. Located in Valle de Bravo, Mexico, this house has that industrial, rustic, contemporary feel to it I adore. Wooden beams, concrete walls, stone floors, and the largest windows make this an amazing piece of architecture. It was beautifully captured by Edmundo Garcia, and it is a pleasure for me to share it with you… enjoy!

Adoro la manera en que entra la luz en cada uno de los espacios y cómo ilumina las vigas en el techo… En cuanto a los muebles, me fascinan las sillas que están en la sala, junto a la chimenea, así como la mesa del comedor y las lámparas que están sobre de ella. Increíbles.

I love the way light enters each space, especially how it illuminates the beams on the ceiling. As for the furniture, I’m currently in love with those chairs in the living room, and the pendants and table from the dining room. Amazing!

Éste es un post muy especial.

Finalmente, después de dos muy largos meses, puedo compartir esta casa que que he venido presumiendo en instagram, impaciente por mostrarla. No sé si recuerdan, pero en julio les conté cómo mi disco duro tronó irremediablemente, perdiendo todas mis fotos de lo que iba del año. Lo que no les conté fue que lo perdí justo el día que estaba terminando de escoger las fotos de esta precisa casa, para escribir el post que quería compartir al día siguiente. No cabe duda que en todo lo malo hay cosas buenas, pues para recuperar las fotos no me quedó de otra más que hacer el viaje de 2 horas a Tapalpa y revivir la increíble experiencia de estar ahí en compañía de unos excelentes anfitriones y amigos.

Finally, after two very long months, I’m able to share this house I’ve been sharing on instagram, eager to do so here. I don’t know if you remember, but back in July I wrote how I lost my hard drive for good, loosing all my photos from 2013. What I didn’t say was I actually lost it the very same day I was working with this house’s photos, trying to pick the winning few (out of hundreds) for the post I would write that night. There’s no doubt that good comes even from bad things, for the only thing left for me to do to recover the photos was to make the two hour trip to Tapalpa and live the amazing experience of being there in the company of the greatest hosts and friends, all over again.

La primera vez que conocí este lugar fue como parte de las actividades de fin de mi diplomado en diseño de interiores, y acompañando nuevamente a nuestros compañeros de paisajismo. Coyaua es un proyecto increíble del cual quedé profundamente enamorada. Habiendo empezado de la nada, es un excelente ejemplo de lo que la voluntad puede lograr, pues ahora es un espacio hermoso, completamente integrado con la naturaleza del lugar.

The first time I visited this place was as our last activity from my Interior Design course. Coyaua is an amazing project I fell in love with. Having started from zero, this is a great example of what will-power can achieve, for it is now a gorgeous space, completely integrated with the nature that surrounds it.

Nuevamente las fotos que tengo del lugar son demasiadas para un sólo post (eso pasa cuando me dejan en una casa/jardín bonito con cámara en mano). Así que, sin más, empezamos por los interiores, ¿te parece?

Once again, the amount of photos is huge for a single post (see what happens when you leave me in a gorgeous house/garden with my camera?). So let’s start from the indoors, shall we?

Diseñada por Karen Collignon, esta casa tiene una mezcla sumamente interesante y profundamente atractiva: es rústica, pero contemporánea, con un estilo mexicano pero con toques vintage, e incluso orientales. La casa en sí es pequeña, pero cuenta con un bello patio que le da mucha amplitud. La arquitectura tiene detalles muy de rancho, que a mí en lo particular me enloquecen, como las vigas en los techos, los espacios típicamente cuadrados, la simpleza de los materiales, el patio central. Hay muchas piezas y elementos recuperados, así como detalles muy originales, como son los gabinetes inferiores de la cocina, totalmente abiertos y hechos con piedra laja, de igual manera que los muebles de baño. El juego de texturas y elementos me encanta. Es sin duda un espacio que te hace sentir bienvenido y en casa.

Designed by Mexican Karen Collignon, this house has a very interesting and deeply appealing mix: it’s rustic, but contemporary, with a Mexican style, but with vintage and even asian touches. The house is actually on the small size, but has a lovely patio which gives the open feel to it. I love the its architecture, the ranch-like details that make me go crazy, such as the beams on the high ceilings, the very square spaces, the simplicity of the materials, the patio. There are several reclaimed pieces and elements, as well as very original ideas, such as the kitchen lower “cabinets, made from stone (the same as the bathroom furniture). And then there’s the mix of textures… This is definitely a space that makes you feel right at home.

Y con esta imagen los dejo… esperando que disfruten mucho su fin de semana y su puente, si es que se lo toman. ¡Espero que esta casa los haya inspirado tanto como a mí! El martes les tengo listas las fotos de los exteriores, así que ¡no se lo quieren perder!

Después de un fin de semana inspirador y lleno de lluvia, estoy de vuelta frente a la computadora, lista para compartirles la segunda parte de la increíble casa estilo mexicano del viernes. Y a ustedes, ¿cómo los trató el fin de semana? Espero que de maravilla. 🙂

Como les había dicho, hoy iniciamos el recorrido desde el pasillo, pero con la dirección contraria, hacia el interior de la casa… ¿vamos?

After a most inspiring and rainy weekend, I’m back in front of the computer, ready to share with you the second part to the gorgeous Mexican style home from last Friday. How is the long weekend treating you? I hope great 🙂

Like I told you, we are taking of where we ended, right in the hallway, but heading straight into this lovely home… wanna join me?

Paredes blancas que aportan amplitud a los espacios, con algunos muros de acento color azul intenso, creando un contraste interesante y muy alegre. Volvemos a encontrar materiales muy característicos en la arquitectura mexicana, como el suelo de barro, los azulejos del baño, las puertas de madera sólida tipo rancho y la herrería, mientras que en la decoración sobresalen piezas mexicanas, como son los muebles rústicos, las lámparas de alpaca, las artesanías y juguetes tradicionales, los bordados, y las pinturas. El evidente estilo mexicano de esta casa, es sin embargo actual y contemporáneo, y sobretodo, un claro reflejo de la personalidad de sus dueños. Una casa que te acoge y te hace sentir en casa desde el primer momento en que la conoces.

Yo me quedo con esta última toma, el instante en que la luz entra a través del techo, y cómo ilumina y da amplitud… en contraste con el azul intenso de la pared.

White walls with intense blue accents, create an interesting and joyful contrast. We can notice very Mexican elements in the architecture, such as the clay flooring, or the tiles in the bathroom, and many Mexican pieces in the décor, such as the rustic furniture, the metal pendant, the traditional toys and crafts, the embroidery and the paintings. This Mexican style, however, has a modern feel to it, and reflects the owners’ personality extremely well. A welcoming house that makes you feel right at home the first moment to enter.

I love this last photo, and how it captures light entering through the ceiling and into the deep blue accent wall. Which is your favorite spot?

Hoy quiero compartir con ustedes una casa que tengo la fortuna de conocer personalmente y me encanta desde el primer momento en que la vi. Descansando sobre las faldas del cerro de San Juan Cosalá, en la Rivera de Chapala, se trata de una casa con marcado estilo mexicano, llena de colores vibrantes, flores, arte, detalles folclóricos, y elementos muy característicos, como los techos de teja, o los pisos de barro. Es una casa tan increíble que las fotos que tomé son demasiadas para un sólo post. Así que, pensando en el fin de semana que ya se asoma, te invito a empezar, inspirarnos con sus jardines, patios y demás espacios exteriores… ¿me acompañas?

Today I’m excited to share a home I am fortunate to know personally, one that I love ever since I visited it for the first time. Lying on a hillside in Chapala, it’s a gorgeous example of Mexican architecture and interior style, filled with vibrant colors, art, flowers, folk details, and charmful elements, such as the clay floors and roof-tiles. I love this house so much, the amount of photos I took are way too many for a single post. So, having this long weekend right infront of us, why don’t you join me getting inspired with its gardens, patios and other outdoor features?

Como estuve compartiendo en Instagram, hace una semana estuve visitando la Expo Mueble 2013. La feria está llena de muebles increíbles, pero lo que me gustó más fue encontrar firmas mexicanas que apuestan por el diseño y la creación de propuestas nuevas. Hablando de eso, dentro del marco de la Expo Mueble se llevó a cabo la exposición y premiación del concurso de diseño de muebles organizado por la Afamjal, Dimueble 2013. Ésta fue la 6a edición del concurso, dirigido tanto a estudiantes como a profesionales del diseño, y debo decir que me encantó conocer las propuestas. A continuación, mis favoritas:

If you follow me on Instagram, a week ago I visited Expo Mueble 2013, one of the largest furniture fairs in Mexico. It was filled with amazing pieces, but what I really enjoyed was knowing new Mexican firms, bringing new design and gorgeous pieces. Speaking about that, I also got the chance to see the finalists from Dimueble 2013, the national furniture design contest, where both students and professionals can participate. Here are my favorite ones:

Hoy quise cambiar un poco el rumbo de la decoración centrada en casas, para compartir con ustedes un proyecto que me gustó mucho desde que lo vi. Se trata de las oficinas de la firma Freehand Arquitectura, con sede en Madrid, pero lidereada por la arquitecta mexicana Lourdes Treviño.

Para todos aquéllos que me han escrito con la inquietud de encontrar inspiración para sus oficinas o despachos, creo que ésta les puede ayudar.

Today I felt like changing the subject a little from houses to offices. I want to share with you a project I really liked since I first saw it. For all of you who have written to me, asking for this kind of inspiration for your work, let me introduce you to Loft 20, the offices for the architecture firm Freehand, in Madrid, lead by Mexican architect Lourdes Treviño.

Este hermoso espacio es multidisciplinario, ya que no sólo sirve como oficinas, también tiene las funciones de galería de arte, showroom y sala de fiestas. Un espacio vivo, que se transforma conforme a las necesidades de los usuarios.

Adoro la manera en que se supo aprovechar y potenciar la doble altura del loft, y como el mobiliario blanco armoniza con el suelo y el muro gris, y los detalles de madera al natural. Líneas simples, unas lámparas muy escultóricas, y un vinil lleno de detalle sobre la pared y el espejo hacen que este espacio sea un lugar en donde puedan fluir las ideas y la creatividad.

This gorgeous space is multidisciplinary, since it doesn’t only function as offices. This place is also an art gallery, a showroom and party room. Kinda gives you the feeling the space is alive, and it transforms according to the user needs. 🙂

I love the high ceilings, and the white furniture over the gray floor and walls, with the natural wood details. Simple lines, sculpture-like pendants, and an amazing decal design on the wall and mirror makes this space my dream office. Perfect for ideas and creativity flow. 🙂

Observar el trabajo de la diseñadora industrial tapatía Laura Noriega es una verdadera delicia. Líneas simples y sutiles que retoman técnicas artesanales para conjuntarse en objetos únicos, sería mi manera de describir su trabajo. A continuación algunas de las piezas que más me gustan.

Looking at designer Laura Noriega’s work is a true joy for me. Delicate and simple lines taking artisan work to new heights of unique objects is how I would best describe her work. Here are some of her pieces I love the most.

Actualmente, el trabajo de Laura está siendo reconocido por la revista Elle Decoration México y The Home Store dentro de su proyecto #ELLEapuesta, en el cual se está “apostando” por el diseño mexicano, dándolo a conocer en su revista y en redes sociales. Esta interesante propuesta viene, además, con un interesante concurso con el cual puedes ganar $7,000 en vales para The Home Store y un premio diseño de Laura Noriega.

Enhorabuena por Elle Decoration México y The Home Store por esta excelente iniciativa.
