The story I’m about to tell is perhaps the most personal one I’ve ever written on this blog. You know I don’t like to tire you with words, because I know you come for the photos but today, I want to open up and share it all, straight from the heart, where I’ve been keeping the story. So, if you don’t feel like reading too much, today’s not the day, sorry! I promise I’ll have regular posts next week. However, if you want to know how it is that I’m living my dream, without really believing it… this is it, guys 🙂
Esta historia se remonta hace 14 años. ¡Catorce! 🙂
This story begins 14 years ago. Fourteen. When I was 20 I discovered a channel that made me dream: Casa Club TV. I’m not joking. It was 14 years ago I watched Casa Club TV for the first time, and fell in love. Home décor and DIY programs all day long was the best thing that ever happened to me (it introduced me to Sarah Richardson!). Reality was, I wasn’t majoring in anything design, but actually management, but this channel and its programs took me to my dream job. Making things, fixing the house, transforming spaces, that was my dream. And though I couldn’t do that at that time, nor place, the seed was planted, and the dream begun! 🙂
It was quite a while since I took that path again. During those years I lived difficult things that made me grow a lot, but kept me away from my passions. Although, come to think about it, my soul was restless and creative. Truth is, I never stopped painting, or designing, or creating, though my career was another one. My hands cannot be still!
Mucho.
But then I got married, again, at age 28, and that’s when I became really restless. Having our own empty house, like a white canvas is soooo tempting, you know! And then I met the bloggosphere, and thought about sharing my adventure of making over our home. My goal has always been making design accesible, letting everyone know you can have your dream home, even if it’s the smallest place in the world, and you don’t have a penny.
The blog grew, and it has become one of the most important things in my life. I think I could easily write a full post about that, but don’t worry, I’ll keep it simple. Thanks to my blog I’ve grown, both personally and creatively, and I have been able to see my dream become a reality, little by little. It hasn’t been easy, nor fast. My blog is turning 5 later this year. But hard work has made it worthwhile. Lots.
Fast-forward to September 2013: I get an email from Casa Club TV. They had seen my blog and DIYs, and they liked them. They wanted an interview, it didn’t say much more. I honestly thought it would be a online interview for their blog or something. I answered, and then realized they wanted a face to face interview, which meant having to fly to Mexico City, and all. And I did, pushed by my husband who is THE most supportive one with me. I went to the interview, then went back for my on-screen trial, not before preparing my projects during a month.
That day, when I made the screen test, I published this photo on Instagram, where I asked all for you good vibes for this very important project. Your answer was overwhelming. People from all over the world wishing me the best of luch. I’ll never forget it!
And there I am, instagramming in-between takes (I’m addicted).
After some weeks, I got another email telling me I was on the show, and I’d be one of the 6 DIY specialists, which meant flying to Buenos Aires for the shootings, and getting everything ready with my clients, job, the magazine, so I could leave for almost 2 weeks, and also coordinating with them for my projects, since I couldn’t obviously take things with me from here. Everyone from the network was so amazing and supportive. They all rock! Oh, and my fellow DIY specialists are awesome 🙂
(This is my favorite spot on the set).
So now you know why I have been so mysterious and sometimes abscent from the blog. And now, drumroll please!
